Don't want the customer list to default to the top

When looking at a specific customer, and I click on the "customer" button in the sidebar, it goes to the top of the list every time. I want to be able to go back to the place I was at when I selected the customer to view. (Much like a Web page goes back to where you were when you press the back arrow, not to the top of the page.)

Or another suggestion--put tabs at the top of the customer list to select A-D, E-H, I-L, and so on.
